Diversity & Inclusion

At RDJ we are committed to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion through recruitment, career development, and ongoing outreach to the communities in which RDJ has a presence. We believe in creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our clients and of the communities in which we work and live; an inclusive workplace that celebrates diverse talent, varied perspectives and experiences; and one that allows us to better serve our clients.

Our initiatives include:

  • Investors in Diversity standard. We place a diversity and inclusion lens on all of our people practices. RDJ has been awarded the Irish Centre for Diversity ‘Investors in Diversity Silver Standard’, which measures the sense of fairness and belonging through our employees’ perspective.
  • Gender balance. RDJ is a participant in 30% Club, a collaborative business-led effort to make real change in Ireland, aiming towards increased female representation in senior management. Through our participation in the 30% Club, we are committed to women comprising at least 30% of RDJ's senior management team.

  • Diversity & Inclusion awareness training. Training is provided to employees addressing topics like unconscious bias, cultural awareness, and inclusive leadership.
  • Family friendly workplace policies. A number of our workplace policies are aimed at supporting those with family or other caring responsibilities. These policies are available to employees at all levels including those in senior roles. These include part time working options, paid maternity, adoptive and paternity leave, parental and parent’s leave. We also offer Surrogacy Leave, leave for early stage pregnancy loss and leave for fertility treatments. A ‘Reconnect’ policy for those going on extended periods of leave, such as maternity leave or extended sick leave ensures those employees feel supported and engaged whilst on leave and on their return.
  • Diversity scholarships. Diversity Scholarship & Placement Programmes are place in both University College Cork and University of Galway supporting students from ethnically diverse backgrounds studying law, with the aim of encouraging diversity in the legal profession and building a more inclusive legal community. • Supporting diversity across the legal profession. RDJ recently signed up to a new Bar Council Equitable Briefing Policy which seeks to encourage fairer distribution of work to female barristers. The Policy which was formally launched in March 2023 aims to address under-representation of women in certain practice areas, and the fact that just 20 per cent of senior counsel are women.
  • Women in STEM. RDJ is a sponsor of I Wish, an initiative to inspire young women to consider careers in STEM and in this way ensure young women are best placed to participate fully in the economies of the future. Since its inception in 2015, over 50,000 girls from 28 countries have already benefitted from I Wish support to discover career opportunities in the STEM fields through outreach activities, mentorship and twinning programmes and further education programmes.
  • Gender diversity. RDJ a participant in the 30% Club, a collaborative business-led effort to make real change in Ireland, aiming towards increased female representation in senior management. We are also proud to host the RDJ Women in Leadership series which aims to inform and inspire women about gender inequality and gender balance. Recent events includes:
    • In March 2024, we hosted Fuel your Potential in Galway where our panel of speakers looked at how tailored approaches to female health, nutrition and performance can be game-changing but are often overlooked in favour of a one-size fits all approach. Read more here.
    • In February 2024, we hosted Building a FEMPIRE in Cork, where five female founders who have all helped established successful businesses focused on female health shared their stories of transformation, resilience and purpose. Read more here.
    • In March 2023, we held an event in Dublin where Afghan Women Rights Activist and RDJ employee, Mahbooba Faiz shared her story of her escape from Taliban controlled Afghanistan. Mahbooba’s story is one of personal courage and resilience, but also a stark reminder that we need to continue to raise awareness of the struggle for women’s equality across the world. • LGBTQ. In June 2023 we hosted an event with co hosts of the podcast ‘ I’m grand Mam’ to raise funds for Belong to Youth Servies, a national organisation supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and inter sex (LGBTQI + young people.
  • Sports in the Community. RDJ is a proud sponsor of Munster Rugby and Connacht Rugby, and in 2024 expanded our sponsorship to include the Munster Women’s Senior Team. The promotion and support of increased inclusivity and diversity across the game of rugby is in keeping with our core values and commitment to diversity and inclusion, whether in the workplace, sporting arena or wider community.
