Environmental Impact
We’re accelerating our transition towards net zero by 2040, with a 50% reduction by 2028.
Through emission reductions, energy efficiency improvements, responsible waste management and digital upgrades, we’re taking incremental and monumental steps forward for a climate-positive future.
Read on to learn how we embed this in our day–to–day.
With a net zero target for 2040, we’re rethinking our environmental impact on every level and empowering our clients to do the same.
Cutting carbon
From electricity, procurement, travel, waste and water, we’re tracking and targeting our biggest emission sources. By examining the breakdown of 541.1 tonnes of carbon across our operations, we are adopting a data-driven strategy to enhance our processes and achieve net zero by 2024 at the latest.
So far, we have reduced our footprint by 40% since 2017 through a combination of energy conservation measures, transitions to open-plan office spaces, city centre relocations and encouraging sustainable commuting habits.
While we are proud of our progress, we recognise there is far more to achieve.
We feel a profound responsibility as an organisation to keep pushing towards a sustainable and equitable future, inspiring and enabling others to do the same because we are nowhere near finished.
Designing offices of the future
Our Dublin and Cork offices are housed in next-generation, Gold LEED certified buildings. The open plan designs cater for energy efficient air conditioning and boast features like rainwater harvesting, solar reflective energy efficient glazing, renewable heat pump technology and intelligent LED lighting systems. Thanks to our cross-functional sustainability team, we are always finding new ways to reduce energy, water and paper usage as well as source materials from reputable suppliers.
Commuting to work in sustainable ways
With accessible city centre locations, we encourage all employees to use public transport to get to work with incentives like travel saver and the bike-to-work scheme. We have mandated the use of public transport for all business travel through our expense policies. We have also heavily invested in our IT infrastructure to facilitate remote working.
Transitioning to emerging digital solutions
We aim to hit our 50% digital target by 2025 and go fully digital by 2030. With platforms such as High Q, Egress and Bundledocs, we’re finding ways to forgo hard copy documentation while upholding the most rigorous information security standards for our clients.
Assisting clients on their ESG journey
We know the risks climate change poses to people worldwide, and we are committed to being part of the solution. As environmental regulation and reporting become significant business concerns, we’re passionate about helping clients stay ahead of change with our ESG offerings.
Eliminating unnecessary waste
Everything we use or make has an impact on our planet, so we’re eliminating any unnecessary waste we generate through responsible practices and zero-waste initiatives. All employees own RDJ KeepCups to eliminate single-use cups. We have consolidated waste collection in common areas with clear labelling for general and compostable waste, as well as general recycling, batteries and light bulbs.
